BASED ON TALLINN, ESTONIA, CUBAN ARTIST JORGE JAVIER GARCÍA RUÍZ HAS NEVER STOPPED DRAWING AND PAINTING, ALWASY LOOKING FOR NEW WAYS TO BRING HIS DREAMS TO LIFE
Jorge Javier García Ruíz grew up in La Habana, Cuba. Always drawn to art, whether in school, college or even at work he could be seen doodling most of the time.
In 2018 moved to Santiago de Chile, where he lived for 4 years. There he had a life changing opportunity through the Milan Art Institute, Mastery Program. As part of this program he had access to art mentors, professionals drawing and painting tools plus, the chance to learn from world renowned artists like Elli Milan, Dimitra Milan and being mentored by Casey Wakefield. This program allowed Jorge to create his first art portfolio and his first sold paintings.
Another forming experience in his career has been studying under the Cuban Venezuelan artist Yanoly Pousa. From her, Jorge has received an integral formation on art history, conceptual art, Cuban contemporary painters, etc. More than a teacher Jorge considers Yanoly as a mentor and guide to everything art has to offer.
In 2023 Jorge took quite a long trip through Egypt, which greatly influenced his view on the world and of course his art, before arriving in Estonia, where he currently resides. Arriving in Tallinn has been another great change that shows in his art, Estonia quite the opposite from Cuba, where snow, cold and gray days are the norm. Where people tend to be more shy and keep to themselves contrary to the extrovert nature of Cubans.
This experience living in different countries and cultures, has deeply influenced Jorge’s imagination and of course art. For him what’s next is to keep reflecting on how we experience human relations and cultures as an outsider, an immigrant, a foreigner and of course reflect on how being Cuban experiencing all of this creates the most surrealist paintings.
